Third edition of Alpini’s further observations on exotic plants, these specimens primarily from Crete. The first edition was published posthumously in 1627 and was edited by the author’s son. Nissen BBI 21. Prosperus Alpinus or Alpino (1553-1617) was a reknown doctor in Venice and was a great botanist and director of the botanical gardens in Padova and this nicely illustrated book is important for its illustrations and descriptions of exotic plants from the Middle East such as the Conuoluulo Arabico, Hyosciamo albo Aegyptio, Lotus Aegyptia incl. 6 different engravings and which was a holy flower in Egypt, Maru Aegyptiorum etc.
