Presentation Copy from the Editor to Edward Cobden (1684-1764), divine and poet, with latter´s inscription. Cobden`sresignation followed a sermon, `A Persusive to Chastity`, wich he had preached before George II. in 1748. The sermon was censured and the author lampooned in a court ballad. But Dr. Whiston, a more sympathic auditor, called it “that seasonable and excellent sermon devivered wehn crime between the sexes was at its greatest height”. Little rubbed else handsome copy from the Britwell Court Library.
