Presentation Copy from the Editor to Edward Cobden (1684-1764), divine and poet, with latter´s inscription. Cobden`sresignation followed a sermon, `A Persusive to Chastity`, wich he had preached before George II. in 1748. The sermon was censured and the author lampooned in a court ballad. But Dr. Whiston, a more sympathic auditor, called it “that seasonable and excellent sermon devivered wehn crime between the sexes was at its greatest height”.
